I’ve been told there are six families of Bald Eagles out there on the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. Occasionally, my wife Patricia and I will spot one soaring in our Southern Illinois sky.

Ryan: Tied to the Red, White & Blue… the Pass It On for July 2nd, 2019… brought to you by Pass One Hour Heating & Air… here’s Francis Pass…

Fourth of July is coming and that ol’ eagle has been on my mind a lot lately. On my mind for the word freedom. This country is based on that word and the Fourth of July, is to me, the very beginning of our country. The beginning of freedom. It set forth the foundation for all that we have to this day.

If you really think about it, our forefathers had great foresight.

An establishment of a people long before you and me, with the wisdom to see into the future. Kind of like that eagle way up there in the sky.

What a wonderful symbol.

We are all totally independent, and yet, we aren’t. We are all tied to one another.

Tied to those Pilgrims that landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620.

Tied to the irreversible shot that was heard around the world in 1775. Tied to each musket blast that ended the life of an original American soldier from 1775 to 1781.

In one shape or form, we are all tied to, and owe a great debt of gratitude, to the stars and stripes. For all they represent.

That shot heard ‘round the world… at the start of the revolution… in Lexington on the 19th of April 1775… and the sacrifices made beginning that day to extend the pilgrims progress… makes me think of ol’ glory.

Such a wonderful symbol.

Red symbolizes Hardiness and Valor.

White symbolizes Purity and Innocence.

Blue represents Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice.

I love my flag…..and I love my country. I proudly carried that flag into battle, so that others could enjoy…….freedom.

In America today, some bear arms, some don’t. That Freedom.

Some practice religion, some don’t. Some go to church, some don’t. That Freedom.

Some place their hands over the hearts during the national anthem, some don’t. That Freedom.

Some respect our flag, some………(gosh darn) That Freedom.

That freedom that’s worth every drop of blood that’s been shed.

That freedom remains today because of our great military.

America to me is flags and eagles flying high, flying free for all to love and see.

Drive by my house, and you’ll see that American flag flying proudly in my yard, and just under it you’ll see another flag flying…. the Black Horse flag. Those flags, like our country, mean more to me than you’ll know. I hope they mean something to you too.

Thanks for listening.

I’m Francis Pass.

Happy Independence Day.

Oh, and PS – I’ve been told there are six families of Bald eagles out at Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge….I hope I get to see every dadgum one of them someday.
