Pass It On is a new, bi-weekly peek inside the heart and mind of Francis Pass…
Pass It On – December 21, 2020
Oh, I remember. I’ll always remember.
It was Christmas, 1967. And we were dug into the side of a… well, a molehill, really. Out in the rubber trees on the South side of the Mekong River.
My unit, there on that hill, had seen a lot of action. Too much action. Leading up to what would be known as the Tet Offensive in early 1968.
But, on that day – Christmas Day – what I remember most was the quiet.
An unofficial Christmas truce.
For one day, half-a-world away… all was calm… and all was bright.
I do not relive. But I remember. I’ll always remember.
And I am thankful – so thankful – for the young men and women who will spend this Christmas away from their mommas, their daddies, their husbands, their wives, and their children.
I’ll say a prayer for them on Christmas day. I hope you’ll do the same.
Thanks for readin’.
I hope all is calm and all is bright for you.
